President Elect Training Seminar – Townsville 13th – 14 th March

Posted by Don on March 14th, 2010

PETS/ PRLS training and District assembly in Townsville was well supported, all of the local clubs Townsville, Thuringowa, Charters Towers, Ayr, Airlie Beach, Cairns West, Mount Isa, Cloncurry and Dili Rotary clubs were represented. It was great to see one Rotaract Club with three representatives and two Interact clubs (Blackheath and Thornburgh) represented.
Training and District Assembly was an enjoyable experience for me, it was great to catch up with other Rotary friends and enjoy fellowship.

Alan Church is our District Governor elect, it was fabulous to meet Alan he is an interesting fellow and is very passionate about Rotary.

One highlight was to see Peter Kaye, receive the Rotary award of “Service above Self” only 150 of these are bestowed in the world in any year. There appeared to be a hitch with the proceeding while we waited for Peter’s family to be spirited into the room, Joanne Shilling and Phil Dempster read out a list of Peter’s achievements in Rotary. It took a while for Peter to catch on as to who they were talking about and was caught completely by surprise. Anybody who knows PDG Peter Kaye knows him as a deserving recipient of the award.
The training highlighted the need to advance the planning for 2010-11 which it is my hope to be a rewarding year for our members and Rotary, our theme is “Building Communities and Bridging Continents”.
The next round of PRLS training and District assembly is to be held on 27th and 28th March for Mount Isa and Cloncurry Clubs.
